General Classroom Policies
🦉Classroom Rules⚡️
Students are expected to follow the classroom rules at all times. These rules include remaining quiet in the hall and class during instruction, walking properly in the classroom and hallway, following all teacher instructions, practicing safe behavior, keeping hands and feet to oneself, and treating everyone with respect. If students are observed being good and practicing our philosophy of being ready, respectful, and responsible they may receive an otter ticket. If they are observed not following the rules they will have to put a chance ticket in their pocket. If they use up three chances in a day then they will receive a note, email, or phone call home to discuss the day's concerns. At end of the month a movie is provided for any students who do not exceed an excessive amount of tickets, a phone call home due to extremely poor behavior, detention, an office referral, or suspension. The number of acceptable tickets varies on the length of the month. Students who are observed bullying or acting in an unsafe manner may receive an immediate phone call or office referral at the teacher's discretion.
My classroom has a Harry Potter ⚡️theme in which the students will be put in class houses or groups. They will work together to earn points for their exceptional behavior. These will be added up at the end of each week for a reward🥇 for the winning house. 🦉
Assignment Policy 📕
Assignments are given on a daily basis. Review work is often given every morning to practice and refresh previous lessons. Students may work on it in the morning as they arrive and up to announcements. We also complete daily activities and group work in class as well. Anything that is not completed in class is expected to be taken home as homework. All assignments are due the next day unless otherwise noted. Students may turn assignments in one day late for credit but no later. It is the student's responsibility to write down their assignments in their agenda every day as needed. If students are absent they will have the same number of days as their absence to complete the assignments. A students absent work will be placed in a folder for them when they return. If you wish to pick up a student's absent work you may call the office and leave a message. Absent work will be ready for pick up in the office at the end of the day and no earlier. If a student looses their work they may take an extra copy if available, but please understand special copies will not be made. This and accepting excessively late work, only promote irresponsibility and bad habits which helps no one in the future.
Tests 📐
Tests are given after instruction of a certain topic is completed. Depending on the topic this may take 1-2 weeks. Tests dates are listed both on this website and the newsletter. If a student is absent they will make up the test when they return. If a student misses a spelling test they are usually excused since these are given aloud.
Grading 🖊
Grading is based on a points systems. Students receive points for tests and assignments completed. Rubrics with precise instructions and requirements are often given out for group activities, notebooks, projects, reports, and final copies of writing assignments. These rubrics give a break down of how the points are distributed and added up. Assignments are worth 50% and tests, reports, and projects are worth 50% of their overall grade.
Midterms and Gradecards 🔖
All midterms and grade cards are now done electronically and mailed out by the board. Midterms do not have letter grades on them and only show if the student is performing unsatisfactorily, satisfactorily, or outstanding in the particular course or subject. Grade cards only will contain actual letter grades.
Birthdays 🎂
Students may bring in a treat to share on or near their birthday. If a student has a summer birthday they may pick anytime at the end of the year to bring in a treat. Students will be permitted to pass out and share their treats during lunch only. It is also not permitted to bring in other forms of celebration to the classroom such as balloons or other party favors.
Supply List 📚
Supplies are expected to be present in school at all times. Please be aware that students often use up these supplies throughout the year. Buying extra supplies at the beginning of the year when they are on sale is a good practice. You may keep
the extra supplies at home or send them to school to be kept safely aside until needed. Please put your student's name on all their supplies so there is no mix up or question as to what is or is not theirs. This saves arguments and time. A copy of the supply list has been provided in an attachment below. If anything special is required throughout the year a special note will be sent home. This is a copy of last year’s list. It it very close to the new one. I will post this year’s list on August 1.
